Maza’s architectural impression is that of a traditional brick wood fired oven from which it is inspired. The use of form, material and light creates a fireside atmosphere, not far from the archetypal Ancient Greek ‘Hestia’, a fireplace and centre of the Ancient Greek home. When entering Maza, the customer enters a space designed to evoke a feeling of relaxed domesticity. The traditional brick oven is partially deconstructed and built in wood, enfolding the space. Set underneath an imposing vault ceiling, the seating but also the cooking area, allows one to immerse in a visual journey of scale, light and symbolism. Historically, the hestia (hearth) was the heart and essence of a household, essential for food preparation, warmth and the completion of sacrificial offerings to deities. The extensive use of hammered copper surfaces heightens the fireside feel. Light bounces off the copper surfaces and travels through the space creating glaring reflexions much like crackling flames. The brand starts with an impacting typographic logotype with considerable visual weight. The typography unifies the cursive Hestia, giving it an artesanal touch. A rustic emblem is added to the stamp, keeping the same constant visual line and achieving the unification of the concept, giving the brand an antique aesthetic.
